Stossel, Sick in America, Part 4

August 22nd, 2008 | by Brian Schwartz |

Continued from Part 3.

Topics:

  • Is “greed” the problem?  Should medicine be about profit?  Michael Moore: “Get the profit out.  Get the private health insurance company out of there.”
  • Regina Herzlinger: Henry Ford cut the price of cars by half.  There are Henry Fords of health care.  Less incentive to innovate without profit.
  • Michael Moore laughs and giggles instead of making any good points.
  • Stossel: “The private sector does everything better because they compete.”
Moore: “The private sector does everything better?  You are like so 13th Century.  I love this!”  Michael Moore thinks they existed then?  Please.
  • Drug companies save lives.  Companies drive innovation in medicine.
  • Tenor José Carrares got cancer treatment in the U.S. [ref], not his home country (Spain).  So did King Hussein of Jordan, and others.
  • David Gratzer: Miracle of modern medicine, from profit.
