Petition to Pres. Obama and Congress: Let the Cameras In
January 11th, 2010 | by Brian Schwartz |From Americans for Prosperity:
With back-room dealing and political payoffs at a fever pitch on the attempted Washington, D.C. health care takeover, we must remind President Obama of his promises to the American people to bring genuine “transparency” to this whole sordid process.
So, I’m asking you to sign a petition to President Obama and Congress demanding that the secret negotiations end and that ALL health care meetings take place before the C-SPAN cameras — just as President Obama promised during his campaign for President.
CLICK HEREOur goal is simple: show the Obama Administration and members of Congress that the American public is focused like a laser beam on the vote buying, political payoffs and secret negotiations rampant as Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Reid and President Obama attempt to force their unpopular health care takeover on a nation that has clearly said “THANKS BUT NO THANKS!”
tags: ObamaCare, politician credibilityThe mainstream media and the politicians in Washington, D.C. are working overtime to sell us on the idea of health care “inevitability” — their spin that Congress is going to pass this legislation no matter what. They’re hoping that you and I will give up and move on.
But think about this for a moment. On Christmas Eve they held the supposedly “final” vote in the Senate on health care and they won it. Well, we’re now weeks down the road. Still, the House and Senate versions of the legislation have not been melded into one package that’s ready for the President’s signature. They still don’t have the votes. And, they know beyond any doubt now that the American people oppose this legislation — poll after poll makes this fact clear. That’s why they’re meeting in secret. It’s why they are desperate to make sure the details and the political giveaways do not leak out.
Our job is to force them out into the open. You may remember former Sen. Everett Dirksen’s motto that Congress does not “see the light until they feel the heat.” Let’s make them feel the heat on this crucial issue of “transparency” by having tens of thousands of Americans sign this petition demanding that President Obama keep his promise by having all of the health care negotiations take place in front of C-SPAN cameras.
By the way, here are two of President Obama’s promises on the topic:
“That’s what I will do in bringing all parties together, not negotiating behind closed doors . . . and broadcasting those negotiations on C-SPAN so that the American people can see what the choices are, because part of what we have to do is enlist the American people in this process.” January 31, 2008
“I respect what the Clintons tried to do in 1993, in moving health reform forward, but they made one really big mistake, and that is they took all their people and all their experts into a room and then they closed the door. We will work on this process publicly. It will be on C-SPAN, it will be streaming over the net.” November 14, 2008
Clearly, the congressional leadership wants to keep their wheeling-and-dealing behind closed doors. When asked about the President’s promises, Speaker Pelosi said “there were a number of things he was for on the campaign trail.” The liberal Speaker of the House dissed a liberal President because he promised to let the American people see what their elected Congress was up to on an issue as important as health care. Pretty amazing.
Let’s hold their feet to the fire.

PS: It’s fast and easy to sign this petition demanding President Obama and Congress keep their promises and let C-SPAN cameras cover the health care wheeling-and-dealing.
