Liberty vs. Newt’s “Top 10 GOP” health care ideas
February 22nd, 2010 | by Brian Schwartz |Last week the Wall Street Journal published an op-ed by Newt Gingrich and John Goodman titled “Ten GOP Health Ideas for Obama.” John Goodman is a great resource on health care policy, and I read his blog regularly. But this article is one example of how Republicans (given the article’s title) and principled defenders of free-markets differ. To see how, check out the response by Cato’s Michael Cannon.
In it he links to an earlier article of his, HSAs Are No Solution for Medicaid, which shows the danger of making Medicaid a “better” government program.
For a summary of Cato’s free-market health care proposals, see the policy analysis, Yes, Mr. President: A Free Market Can Fix Health Care, and healthcare.Cato.org.
